The 2023/24 Jumps season is nearing a close, and it has been another stellar year on the track. Here is a look back at the horses and jockeys who are in contention for some of the leading awards at the end of the campaign.
Irish chaser Galopin Des Champs joined some of the greats in the sport who have won more than one Cheltenham Gold Cup when he defended his crown in the Blue Riband event at the Cheltenham Festival.

Willie Mullins runner will be bidding to complete his hat-trick next March where he is already the 3/1 favourite in the horse racing betting online for the day four contest at the Cheltenham Festival.
As well as his second Gold Cup triumph, there was also success this season in the Irish Gold Cup and Savills Chase for the eight-year-old. He has confirmed his position as one of the best 3m chasers of his generation and there may still be more to come from him.
It was well documented during the Cheltenham Festival that Nicky Henderson was not having a great time with his horses. It meant his leading juvenile, Sir Gino, had to miss the Triumph Hurdle. However, he did not have to wait long to win another Grade One success, as he was victorious at the Grand National Meeting at Aintree.
Sir Gino has a huge future ahead, as he is being discussed as a possible Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, and Cheltenham Gold Cup contender. As he showed recently at Aintree, the unbeaten hurdler has a big engine.
Willie Mullins’ hurdler State Man has dominated the 2m division in Ireland over the last couple of years, but his level this season has been the highest of his career so far. He has had wins in the Morgiana Hurdle, Matheson Hurdle, Irish Champion Hurdle, and Champion Hurdle. The latter was the highlight of his campaign, as he went one place better than in 2023. With 11 wins from 14 career starts, State Man is making a strong case for being one of the best 2m hurdlers in history. He is likely to have one more start this season at the Punchestown Festival where he will be bidding for a 10th Grade One success.
The British Jockeys’ Championship has been exciting this season, and it looks as though there will be a new name on the trophy, with Harry Cobden set to lift the trophy. He has been involved in a great battle with Sean Bowen, with the latter making the running in the standings, but then an injury around Christmas meant he was forced to take a lengthy break from the saddle.
Delighted to get 4/4 winners @Ascot ??

Cobden has been one of the leading jockeys in the UK for several years now. This is a great reward for the miles he has travelled over the last 12 months in pursuit of the championship.
The 2024/25 National Hunt season begins on the 1st of May and hopefully, we will see some more star performers on the track in the next campaign.
