Inothewayurthinkin provided Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell with the biggest victory of his career last season when he won the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. He was supplemented for the Blue Riband event in the sport, and that proved to be a smart investment.
At the age of just seven, Inothewayurthinkin still has plenty of time left in his career. This will be just his third campaign over fences, and all the big races in the UK and Ireland are likely to come under consideration by his connections.
A return to the feature race at the Cheltenham Festival will be the primary target for Inothewayurthinkin this season. Cromwell’s chaser is the 7/2 favourite in the bet on horse racing market for the most prestigious jumps race in the sport.

As the horse racing results show, Inothewayurthinkin has been successful at the last two visits to the Festival. In 2024, he won the Kim Muir Challenge Cup by eight lengths, while last March, he beat a strong field that included Galopin Des Champs, Bambridge and Monty’s Star in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Only two horses in the last 20 years have been able to defend their crown in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Al Boum Photo prevailed in back-to-back years in 2019 and 2020, while more recently, Galopin Des Champs won the 2023 and 2024 renewals of the race.

The problem Cromwell has if he decides to have a shot at the Grand National, is that his horse now has an official rating of 176, so he is almost certain to be handed top weight in the race. The Gold Cup winner will need to concede weight to the rest of the 33 runners in the contest, including the defending champion, Nick Rockett.
Cromwell has until February to make a call on the Grand National. His decision may depend on how well his star horse fares in the early stages of the 2025/26 season.
Just as he did last season, Inothewayurthinkin is expected to make his opening start of the campaign in the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown. He has been given an early entry for the Grade One chase over 2m4f, where he could face Fact To File, Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow.
Other early targets in Ireland for Cromwell include the Savills Chase at Leopardstown during the Festive period and the Irish Gold Cup on Irish Champions Weekend. The latter comes a month before the Cheltenham Festival.
As a Gold Cup winner, and a horse with one of the highest ratings in training, all eyes will be on Inothewayurthinkin this season to see if he can improve further and produce some memorable performances on the track.
